Potsdamer Platz, Theater and Casino – 6/17

The most predominant of all buildings on the Marlene-Dietrich-Platz is the one of the Musicaltheater and the casino, on the backside of the Staatsbibliothek of Hans Sharoun.

Both buildings are separated by a narrow way because of the laws for the fire safety.

The architects Piano and Kohlbecker wanted to latch on the adjacent preexistence, designing an irregular plan, very protruding roofs and a very efficient metallic covering on a part of the facade (which reminds actually the one of the Staatsbibliothek).

In the Musicaltheater and in the adjoining cinema Cinemaxx, since 2000 we can find the “Berlinale”: a cinematographic festival!
